[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] When you're lost, here i am forever with your soul
The day was so...long. Or...wait, what time was it? She couldn't be quite sure.
Raven haired and violet eyed, the girl wandered through the corridors of Aeternus. Her destination - the commons area. It was a good place to get out and interact, especially having spent so much time in a prison cell. Alice Anna considered herself lucky that her captors were being so lenient for the time being. Of course, there was the fact that she knew it was only in case she didn't make it home.
Within a few days time, Alice Anna would be aboard a Union ship on her way to engage the Empire. The mission was simple: take the Neptunian colony known as Titan. Whatever happened after that was none of her business, nor did she want it to be. All Alice Anna wanted was to serve her sentence so she could be free. As a member of Jormungandr, she had an expedited sentence guaranteed to her. It was all she wanted, in all honesty.
Well...except one thing.
Her mind began to drift off to memories of the past. With her attention taken off the fact she was moving, Alice Anna almost walked right into the wall. It startled her a little, that much was true. She wasn't exactly privy to letting her mind wander off into the past. Allie let out a quiet sigh, finally entering the common area with a happy grin. It was, of course, all a facade. How could she be happy at a time like this? All the war, all the death. Alice Anna couldn't grasp how anyone could be so okay with it. So, she would faked her smile - at least for the time. Surely, no one would notice.
Right?

Falling back right into the system, Falling back on all empty ears, We’re falling back right out of the system Means falling back right into disgrace.
"I'll take some apples, please." Souji smiled to the storekeeper, adjusting his cabby hat as he dug into his pockets to pay for his latest grocery store run. For the moments he didn't need to wear his uniform while he was on duty... Or the times he wasn't at home, often times his outfits truly looked strange. Most seemed to be inspired by japanese culture from back on Earth, but then there were the times he tried to fit in with others to wear outfits that didn't look painfully out-of-place. Admittedly, a pair of bellbottom jeans with a blazer jacket and a cabby hat was perhaps one of the strangest 'modern' outfits one could see him with. His sense of style and fashion was rather out-of-touch with most, but considering he wasn't like most humans, it rarely bothered him. The hat hid his ears well enough, and his tails remained curled up and under his jacket. The less others saw an alien among them, the less they needed to display their obvious strange reactions... Which meant the less he needed to ignore them.
Leaving the money on the counter, he bowed his head to the storekeeper and smiled as he was wished a pleasant day, before he stepped outside. Life in the colonies was interesting to him, and often quite lively. It was amazing how they managed to make city regions throughout most of the colonies, but also managed to make suburban and rural areas for citizens who preferred those regions. Among those who enjoyed rurals was him, having been raised in such a household for the better part of his life. That didn't mean he didn't like others, however, it was more a matter of preference.
"Seems like it'll be another beautiful day today." he smiled as he looked toward the artificial sky of the colony, before he reached down to his pocket and withdrew a pair of earbuds. He had been a bit behind on the technological department up until he joined the military, and now that he did, he found himself being slowly exposed to a myriad of rather convenient and beneficial electronic and mechanical devices. Among them was... The simple music player. A small device that could hold hundreds of different musical tracks and, with enough advancements, would be able to hold even more or perform other functions. It almost felt embarassing to him, to know how to use his machine to deadly effect, but still feel awkward using something as simple as a music player. He couldn't forget how unwieldly it felt to use communication devices like phones at the earliest points of his life. "Probably just danger awareness or something..." he frowned softly, turning the device on as he stepped forward. Unfortunately, it had the effect of him unintentionally walking into a lady infront, causing him to stumble back as he uttered an 'Oof!', his bag of groceries dropping.
['Cause you're beautiful... (Like no other)' Flawless, absolutely flawless]
The music started to play from his earphones as the Mokuru rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, looking at the girl he'd walked into before he bowed his head and ignored the groceries for a moment. "I apologize for walking into you, ma'am! Are you alright?" he asked, offering an unspoken request to assist her if it was needed, smiling lightly and noticing her own. She certainly appeared to be quite fair in appearance, almost stunning to a point. He simply chalked it up to him not coming here as often as he should have, meeting people he could have were he more frequent. "I should have been paying attention while I was leaving so this could've been avoided..." he added, hanging his head. Once again, the music player had caused him a minor inconvenience.

The commons area was a lot more lively than she imagined.
It was almost bewildering to a point, the simple sights of all that was going on within the sector leaving Alice Anna dumbfounded and with wide, shimmering eyes. It was a beautiful place, that was for sure. For a while, there was the fleeting feeling that her smile wasn’t so forced. Seeing everything, all of this, so similar to home - yet not? The feeling was a good one, one that brought a little more peace of mind in a time that was already becoming so violent. If only he were there to share this with her, if only she hadn’t been so stupid and let her parents take her away those years ago.
Once again, Alice Anna’s mind was beginning to wander, taking her attention off all that was going on around her. The roads ahead were replaced, in her mind, by the fields back at home. Structures that she otherwise had never seen before were now buildings and other attractions from CR-1. In fact, her persistent daydreaming was so vivid she didn’t notice the young man who was, obliviously as well, walking in her direction. The two collided as their paths crossed, causing Alice Anna to stagger backwards a bit as she snapped back reality. She blinked rapidly, trying to sort out what had just happened.
Noticing the young man, a Mokuru, Alice Anna let out an impatient sigh. Her expression became one of irritation, her brow furrowing slightly as her mouth became crooked as she fought a scowl. It wasn’t his solely his fault, it was her’s as well. On top of that, he was at least polite enough to apologize and offer her assistance. Quickly wiping the perturbed look from her face, Alice Anna replaced it with a smile, chuckling lightly. “Oh, I’ll be fine.” She responded, kneeling down and picking up his grocery bag. “I should have been watching where I was going, too. So don’t worry about it.”
At least she wasn’t the only person that wandered recklessly.
Noticing his music player, Alice Anna once again laughed lightly. “Seems your distraction was much more warranted than my own.” She added, taking a quick moment to fix her bangs. “What kind of tunes do you listen to? That is, if you don’t mind my asking.”

His ears wilted as he observed the look of annoyance and disdain on the woman's face. Becoming aware his hat had fallen off his head, he could now tell it was easy for her to identify what he was, and part of him had to wonder if the look was out of a hate for other species. Nevertheless, it seemed ultimately she decided to respond to him in a polite manner, even offering to help pick up the grocery bag a bit while blaming herself in part for the accident. He shook his head for a moment before crouching down to assist, his hand traveling about to collect some of the fallen foods. "Worry not, i'll claim full responsibility for this incident, miss... I'm not exactly a very public places person, so things like this happen more often to me than i'd like to admit. I'm more fond of the countryside areas of the colonies." he hummed. To him, she really didn't need to help him pick up his fallen foods, but the gesture was well accepted all the same. He offered his own smile once everything was back in order, and the pair could stand once again.
She started speaking once more, mentioning his distraction was much more warranted, to which he quirked an eyebrow. The realization of what she was pointing out hadn't dawned on him until she spoke once more, asking what tunes he listened to.
"O-oh, you meant this... It honestly causes me more problems than i'd like to admit." Souji chuckled nervously, raising a hand to scratch behind his ears for a moment, before he eyed the device again. "Honestly... I don't know. When I first enlisted and my associates saw how out-of-touch with technology I was, they decided to get me one of these things, complete with a bunch of songs on it I don't really recognize at all." he hummed, looking down at the track name scrolling through the player. Apparently this one was 'Go to the City'... Well, that was fairly straightforward. "I was raised in a more rural environment, so the most i've heard was either wilderness around me or created instruments at the most. The others actually called me a 'Country Bumpkin in Space' when they found all that out..." he mumbled the last bit, though not low enough to keep her from hearing it. He crouched to retrieve his cabby hat, slipping it back over his head to hide the ears, before he extended his hand to the blue-haired beauty.
"My name is Arakawa Sou- Oh, wait, naming arrangement is the other way normally... Souji Arakawa is my name. It's a pleasure to meet you, miss."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] When you're lost, here i am forever with your soul
Blinking rapidly again, the confusion on Alice Anna’s face definitely showed.
He wasn’t from around here? Like...at all? The thought that someone would be so out of their element was a little overwhelming to think about - she could only imagine how Souji felt, being here and not being the city type. Still, he was polite enough to take responsibility for the incident. Alice Anna wanted to do so herself, but felt she probably wouldn’t get anywhere. She was stubborn at times, enough to know how stubborn others can be. Not knowing Souji, she thought it better to play it safe and let him go to his own beat. A light buzz from her phone took her attention off her acquaintance for a moment, but with a quick strike to a button she returned her attention to the Mokuru before her.
“I guess I’m not really a city person, either.” She replied, reminiscing back to her upbringing for a moment. “In fact, I grew up in a pretty rural part of Aeternus, then went to Costa Rica 1 at the colony cluster. Now, I’m in prison.” She laughed awkwardly at the revelation. “I stand accused of supporting terrorism against the Union. I serve as a Machina pilot for a special forces unit to have my sentence expedited.” As Souji talked about his small music player, she smiled again, enjoying the story. A nice gesture from his colleagues, it seemed. Not enough kindness was in the world - especially in Aeternus. Knowing the Union had some good people was nothing short of a relief.
Alice Anna thought, for a moment, about her own tastes in music before shrugging. “It was nice of them to do that for you.” She commented, “I couldn’t imagine going through such a change.” His mumbling was hard to make out, but she thought it was something relevant to pumpkins. A slight look of confusion once again showed on her face as she tried to decode what on earth pumpkins had to do with being in the city. Eventually, she just decided to let it be. New to Alice Anna was Souji’s gesture of offering his hand. She knew people did it, but she had never met anyone that did so. It seemed, for the most part, to be an old people thing. Still, she didn’t want to be rude.
“My name is Alice Anna Sterling, but my friends call me Allie.” She responded, shaking Souji’s hand with a polite smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Souji Arakawa.”

"A call? If necessary, I can leave you to your devices, miss." Souji nodded his head softly, though she had long since struck aside the call to return to talking to him. He almost felt more awkward than usual now, not used to other people dropping whatever they were doing to speak to him, but it was interesting all the same. Everyone's priorities were different, after all, and at the end of it, only they really had any say what was important or not. When she mentioned she wasn't a city person either, his eyes almost seemed to light up. "Almost like me then... I've come to really enjoy such places for the natural beauty and often times quite and serene atmosphere. I can't really bring myself to leave it permanantly in favor of going to live in a heavily-industrialized area." he looked around them, feeling rather conscious of their surroundings.
To hear her origins was relaxing, though the mood went south a bit at her mention of being in prison. His ears, happily pressing up against his hat to the point where they could lift it, now dropped realizing there was no way this one could be as happy as she acted and still be a prisoner... Yet as he looked into her eyes, he couldn't quite see any signs of breaking. If he had to guess why she didn't seem like a prisoner, it was almost perhaps due to an unseen, steadfast spirit within her that helped pull her through the good and bad of it. Further hearing her role as a special forces combatant for the unit almost seemed like a far-fetched notion to him, but then at the same time, she didn't feel like she was intentionally lying either. She was a complete enigma to him, and one he couldn't see even being remotely capable of committing the crimes she had been accused of.
"Not to sound as if I don't care, but is it really wise to tell a complete stranger that information so openly and freely?" Souji asked, tilting his head, before he shook it softly. "I suppose it doesn't really matter though. I'm a pilot for the Harbinger Union myself, though i'm just a Second Lieutenant. I don't know or understand why you're being made to fight for us under such extreme circumstances, and personally it seems excessive to take such measures... But if we must find ourselves on the battlefield side-by-side, I will assist you to the best of my capabilities. This war continues to take its toll, and the methods used throughout it continue to escalate well into inhumane territory. It's rather depressing..." he muttered softly, looking away. She changed the subject however, bringing up his colleagues and the gift they bought him.
""Ah, that. I think it was more a joke than anything, but it was still an enjoyable gesture. Admittedly I still struggle with the device, but i'm getting my bearings little by little." he added, smiling pleasantly despite the atmosphere of the conversation prior. He was at least happy to hear her offer her name in return for his, along with an acceptance to shake hands. "Alice Anna Sterling... Well met. It's a beautiful name, if I may be allowed to admit. Feel free to simply call me Souji, i'm not currently on-duty... Plus i'm not so rigid as to command the speaking of my rank... Nor do I think i'm even allowed that right, actually..." he hummed softly, as he began to walk past her, moving to head back home. He stopped, however, turning around. "Ah, right! Where exactly are you headed? If you'd like, I can help escort you there unless you require some time to yourself." he offered.
